Bluebird Cancer Retreats: Expanding our reach in 2020

By February 5, 2020Uncategorized

For 23 years now, Bluebird has served hundreds of adult cancer survivors in the West Michigan community. We have been able to provide healing weekend retreats that have provided adults with hope, friendship, and relaxation. This past summer, we decided to give a new dream wings and launch our first ever Family Camp. We hosted 10 families from our community and enjoyed a weekend of outdoor adventure and healing. Heading into this new year, we have our sights set on continuing to expand our offerings to reach families who are in need of support.

We recently launched a new support group, Guardians of Gold, that offers support for caregivers of pediatric cancer patients. Angela and Mike Rose of Spring Lake, along with Kathy Miedema, Social Worker, lead this group on the second Tuesday of each month. Guardians of Gold meets at our Bluebird offices from 6:00 – 7:15 p.m. Our hope is that this group continues to expand and evolve to meet the needs of the pediatric cancer caregivers along the Lakeshore.

We feel blessed with the support of our community as we work to expand our offerings to meet the needs in our area. We have realized that cancer does not just affect the survivor, but the family as a whole. We want to reach families in our community and provide them with the support and resources they need as they navigate along the winding road of cancer.
